N #2: The Perfect Wedding Band

Here’s a link for more information on Malay wedding customs. And another here.

We both however planned to have a simpler process compared to the normal custom. And, for the ‘hantar tanda’ ceremony, he wanted to buy a ring to for me. So we start together the search of the first ring, for the preliminary ‘hantar tanda’ stage before our wedding.

The simple gold wedding band, or also known as ‘cincin belah rotan’ is enough for the purpose of the ceremony, and it happens to be a favorite of mine. I simple adore it because of its simplicity, and yet it looks sweet. It’s a common type of ring, so we expect it to be easy.

The search starts at MidValley. We were informed by the information counter that there are three shops that sell yellow gold jewellery, which is Poh Kong, Tomei and Diamond&Gold (which is a label under Poh Kong too). Three is not much and it took us only a short time from one to another.

Firstly, we were quite unprepared for the high price of gold nowadays. It was RM127 per gram, so it was hard to find a band that fits both my size10 finger, and budget.

Secondly, we found out that we prefer Poh Kong’s gold wedding band suits more to our liking. Its thicker in the middle of the width, thus it is curvier. Compared to Tomei’s, theirs are wider, but thinner.

Though this contributes to cheaper price due to small weight of gold used for the thin but wider size, we still love and prefer Poh Kong’s because not only it felt solid when I tried it, we believe it was worth the price we would pay. Even though it was less wide, it suited my thin finger perfectly. Unfortunately, the weight that we wanted for a size10 ring was not available at the outlet.

We continued the process on another day at One Utama’s Poh Kong. They too only have limited sizes of gold wedding band.

And today, we thought of visiting Poh Kong at Subang Parade after his usual routine to the Celebrity Fitness gym. We thought of browsing first, since we decided not to put our high hopes on the choices of selection.

Ended up I got the most perfect gold band ring! Of course there were many tries with other rings, but the last ring we chose fits perfectly when I first tried it on. It was the right size with the right width. Imagine my unimaginable happiness and excitement when wearing it! He was so relieved to find the perfect size for me that he decided to buy the ring right there and then!

Yeay! :p

The customer service was more than accommodating, and even gave a nice velvet love shaped box for us. They have free engraving service too!

Double Yeay! Hahaahahah

Ahh… So, now what? Owh, so the ceremony will be held this Friday at my mom’s house, and she’s doubly excited that she had smsed me the menu she planned to cook for the night that would fit for 25 people even though there would probably only 15 of us including his entourage. :P

Hmm… hehehe

*happy*
